BOB HEATH and Dan O'Hair (Dean, College of Communication, University of Kentucky) received the Pride Award from the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association for the Handbook of Risk and Crisis Communication, Routledge, 2009.
BOB HEATH presented a paper entitled, Risk Communication--State of the Art Research Considerations, during a pre-conference session on risk communication at the National Communication Association. Because of a scheduling conflict, this paper was delivered by Michael Palenchar (assistant professor, University of Tennessee, UH MA alumnus.)
BOB HEATH delivered "Public Relations Practitioner Leadership Styles: A Contingency Explanation of General Characteristics, Crisis, and Culture." This paper was co-authored with Jae-Hwa Shin (assistant professor, University of Southern Mississippi). It is supported by a research grant from the Korean Public Relations Association. A revised version, with JAE LEE as additional co-author, is scheduled for publication in the Journal of Public Relations Research.
BOB HEATH, along with other senior researchers, participated in the Public Relations Lyceum I: Does the Co-creational Approach Move Our Understanding of Publics and PR Forward?
MARTHA J. HAUN, recently served as national parliamentarian for UDA (the International Dyslexia Society), for IMSLEC (the International Multi-Structured Language Education Council), and The ALLIANCE (a consortium of officers and reps from dyslexia-related organizations). The meetings occurred over a four-day period in Orlando, Fla. Haun also presided at the fall homeowners meeting of the Westgreen Townhomes Association.
MARTHA J. HAUN, has been elected to the 2010 Nominating Committee of the Texas State Association of Parliamentarians. The group will meet in Dallas in January.
FRED SCHIFF was recognized during UH President Khator’s Fall Address Wed. Nov. 11 as one of six Fulbright scholars in the past year.
Janelle A. Ewing (Alumnus), JAE LEE and BOB HEATH presented a paper entitled
Leader-Member Exchange and Transformational Leadership Communication Behaviors at the NCA convention in Chicago.
Jae Min Seo (M.A. UH), JAE LEE, and Jee Young Chung (M.A. UH) presented a paper entitled “Exploring Corporate Blogs: Relational Maintenance Framework and Corporate Blogging Strategies of Large Korean Companies” at the NCA convention in Chicago.
JULIE FIX was one of five Houston Chapter delegates to the 2009 Public Relations Society of America Leadership Assembly in San Diego Nov. 7.
RANDY POLK participated in a fundraiser Nov. 7 for the Arnim Museum in Flatonia, Texas. The program featured Randy and local citizens portraying Flatonia’s historical characters.
Jee Young Chung (M.A. UH) and colleagues presented the following paper at the National Communication Conference in Chicago: "Issues Dynamics, Activated Publics, and Online Behaviors: A Test of the Issues Processes Model in the Korean Context" Jinae Kang (University of Central Missouri), Seon-Kyoung An (Media Research Labs), Jee Young Chung (University of Alabama), Kyoung Yoon Kwak (Sogang University). This paper received the Top Student Paper Award from the Public Relations Division. Jee Young is a second year doctoral student at the University of Alabama.
The Public Relations Student Society of America UH Chapter sent seven students to the organization’s national conference in San Diego Nov. 6-9, the most representatives the chapter has had in several years. Attending were Ania Czarnecka, Taylor Martin, Raquel Gonzales, Aurora Castellano, Samantha Johnson, Claudia Hualde and Minerva Suarez.
